"Self-Talk"
It isn’t
necessary for you to love yourself.
It isn’t
necessary for you to be good to yourself.
It isn’t
necessary for you to remind yourself that you are beautiful.
It isn’t
necessary for you to persuade yourself that you are worthy.
It isn’t
necessary for you to give yourself permission to say “No.”
It isn’t
necessary for you to tell yourself that you are loved.
It isn’t
necessary for you to remember that it’s okay to ask for help.
Think about
it!
Which one is
which? Is ‘you’ ‘yourself,’ or is ‘yourself’ ‘you’?
If ‘you’ talk
to ‘yourself,’ who is talking to who?
Is it
‘yourself’ that imagines that if ‘you’ change your thoughts, the world will
change?
Is it ‘you’ that pays attention so carefully to ‘yourself’?
If it’s you
talking and yourself listening, is it all about yourself, or is it all about
you?
But here’s the thing—
Who is it that tells you what to say to yourself?
Who is it
that decides what the important topics should be?
If you can
switch back and forth between you and yourself, hearing and listening all at
once—
then
who is it that’s doing the switching?
Whose wisdom understands
that some of your choices are good, and some not so much?
Whose
intuition realizes that some things are true and some are false?
Who is it
that observes all the conversations between you and yourself?
Who is it who
listens to other people?
Who is it who
can tell the difference between kindness and cruelty; truth and fiction?
Who is it
that feels the difference between comfort and pain?
WHO?
