What Easter is not…
I thought of this:
All the things that it’s impossible for one person
to do for another, no matter how hard we try.
And something else:
It’s kind of tragic when someone says thankyou
for something that wasn’t meant as a favor.
Still, that wouldn’t make me sad unless no one realized
that old Yeshua never said, “Let me do it for you.”
No, what they said was, “Change your mind!”
They said, “Pick up your lethal injection; pick up your
firing squad;
pick up the means of your own execution—
and Follow Me!”
How much it must still hurt to know that all this
gratitude is mistaken.
Here’s that same old scary door—
the one that is certain to open when we knock—
the one that leads to our own empty tomb.
The Way just keeps on going
beyond this brink,
and there’s not much point in saying thank you
if we don’t follow through.
